Motive for the start of project:
On the occasion of talks in May of 1999 between Peru President, Fujimori, and Governor of Iwate, Masuda, it was requested that Iwate Nambu Ironware production techniques be brought into Peru for the purpose of development and promotion of Peruvian industries.
Outline and Progress of Project:
October, 1999- Survey Team sent from Iwate to Peru
February, 2000- The proper people related to the project were invited to Iwate and a workshop was held to determine the details and content of the exchange.
June, 2000-Jan, 2001 Acceptance of Peruvian Trainee Team
July, 2001-Dec, 2001 Acceptance of Peruvian Trainee Team
February, 2002- Specialists from Iwate sent to Peru.
August, 2002-Dec, 2002 Acceptance of Peruvian Trainee Team
Term of Exchange:
Year 2000-2002
Affiliations with other Organizations:
JICA- From the stages of preliminary planning, JICA has carried out regional surveys, workshops and the acceptance of trainees as a partner in this project.
Expenses:
Budget in 2002- 2,311,000 yen (including expenses for acceptance of 3 trainees)
Difficulties Encountered and:
At first, we didn't know specifically what Peru wanted and as well we couldn't obtain satisfactory information about the state of Peru's industry.
Solutions:
Thanks to the surveys carried out by JICA, we were able to obtain more information about what Peru wanted from the exchange as well as the industrial conditions on their side.
Results and Future Prospects:
We have taken in a total of seven technical trainees and administrators (job training instroctors) and dispatched two specialists to Peru since 2000.

We anticipate this training to lead to an improvement of techniques in the Peruvian foundry industry.
