Motive for the start of project:
Tochigi Prefecture and Zhejiang Province are geographically speaking very close, and it is believed the two share common historical and cultural ties. In addition, results from a public opinion poll conducted in 1984 showed that a great deal of Tochigi citizens wished to hold friendship ties with China. This request by the people led to the beginning of friendly relations in 1986 and the start of technical cooperation in the field of agriculture.
Outline and Progress of Project:
  1. Hosting of Agriculture Technical Trainees
    Total # of Trainees (1998-2002) = 27
    Focused on agriculture-related experimental research, hosting trainees and working to advance technical exchange in horticulture and stockbreeding.
  2. Exchange Programs in the Field of Agriculture
    (VISIT BY GROUPS FROM CHINA)
    Total # of Chinese Delegates (1991-2002) = 55
    Tochigi hosts exchange groups from Zhejiang, China that specialize in various fields of agriculture to examine Tochigi's methods and practices. Participants undergo a wide variety of exchange programs during their stay.
    (GROUPS SENT TO CHINA)
    Total # of Delegates from Tochigi (1991-2002) = 53
    In an environment set up for exchanging ideas and opinions, Tochigi sent groups to China to promote cultural and technical exchange. These groups included agricultural specialists, members from various agricultural organizations and agricultural administrators.
2002-2003 Summary:
In March of 2002, three people were sent from the Tochigi Agricultural Policies Division and the Sustainable Agricultural Extension Center to engage in Environmental Technology field work.
Main Effect:
By sending mutual exchange groups and hosting technical trainees, ties in human relations and agricultural technical exchange have strengthened.
