Overseas Technical Training Programme & Asian Agricultural School Teacher’s Training Programme.

Reasons for Commencement:
To invite youth to Japan from developing countries to undergo technical training and to contribute to the improvement of agricultural techniques while simultaneously contributing to international goodwill.
Summary & Progress of Project:
The Overseas Technical Training Programme receives recommendations from the Overseas Gunma Citizens Society, International Co-operation Organisations and Foreign Consulates in Japan and, after prior approval by host institutions in Gunma, successful applicants are accepted and hosted.
Furthermore, as of 2004, a project will be initiated that will, in co-operation with the Asian Agricultural High School Student Overseas Study Programme, host teachers from co-operating Agricultural High Schools in Asia as trainees.

Overseas Technical Training Programme - established in 1973.
Asian Agricultural School Teacher’s Training Programme. - established in 2004

Gunma Kenjinkai do Brazil (Overseas Gunma Citizens Society) – Recommendation of candidates
International Co-operation Organisations - Recommendation of candidates and general support of the Asian Agricultural School Teacher’s Training Programme.
Khon Kaen College of Agriculture and Technology & University of the Philippines’ Rural High School - Recommendation of candidates.
Budget:
Total budget for 2003 – 15 885 000 Japanese Yen
Challenges & Solutions:
Trainees of non-Japanese decent having an inadequate understanding of the Japanese language. To address this problem, at the beginning of the training period of approx. 1 month is dedicated to the study of Japanese, with a follow-up training session once every month.
Results & Future Prospects:
Contributed to the improvement of agricultural techniques in the countries involved in the programme and to the furthering of goodwill between Japan and said countries. The international understanding/education of the citizens of Gunma was also increased.
With the aim of assisting agricultural techniques in developing countries and promoting international exchange in Gunma, the programme will continue to host trainees from developing countries in the future.
Problems:
Depending on economic conditions, it may be necessary to decrease the number of trainees who can be hosted. The programme, however, will continue regardless.
