Motive for the Start of the Project:
In 2003, some NGOs established the “Guidance for Entering High School” Program. Since their results were successful, they requested Saitama Prefectural Government’s cooperation.
Outline of Project:
Pamphlet and information sessions in various languages to assist students, whose native language is not Japanese, to enter high school.
Progress of Project:
2003 The NGO Planning Committee sponsored the “Guidance for Entering High School” Program.
2004 The “Saitama International Relations and Cooperation Network” took over the sponsorship of the program.
NB. “Saitama International Relations and Cooperation Network” is an organization, established in 12 June 2000, which is comprised of NGOs and municipal governments in Saitama. By sharing information and labor, and putting their respective capabilities and strengths to use, the NGOs and municipal governments are developing efficient international relations and cooperation programs.

From 2004 onwards
Sponsor Organization:
Saitama International Relations and Cooperation Network (which, as of the end of July 2004, includes 90 Saitama municipal governments, municipal international associations, and 175 NGOs. Its administration offices are the Saitama International Association and the Saitama Prefectural Government).
Affiliated Organizations:
Saitama Prefecture’s Board of Education, Okegawa City’s Board of Education, Tokorozawa City’s Board of Education, Koshigaya City’s Board of Education
Expenses:
Budget for 2004:513,000 Yen
Issues:
As the number of foreign nationals settling in Japan continues to grow, the number of families with children whose native language is not Japanese is increasing. Therefore it is necessary to enhance the provision of information and the consultation available for entering further education in various languages through the partnership of NGOs and educational organizations.
