Donating fire trucks

Motive for the start of project: On request made by the Japan Firefighters Association

Outline and Progress of Project:
Zushi City started to donate fire trucks to be put out of service as part of the municipality's cooperation with the overseas projects undertaken by the Japan Firefighters Association and other organizations.
1996: Two fire trucks equipped with a pump (to Peru)
1997: One rescue truck (to Peru)
1998: One fire-truck equipped with a pump (to Peru)
1999: One ambulance (to Peru)
2000: One fire-truck equipped with a pump (to Paraguay)
2001: One ambulance with the first -aid medical equipment (to Jamaica)
2002: One fire-truck equipped with a pump (to Colombia)
2003: One fire-truck equipped with a pump (recipient country)
2003: One fire-truck equipped with a portable pump (recipient country)
2004: One fire-truck equipped with a pump (recipient country not yet determined)
2004: One fire-truck equipped with a portable pump (recipient country not yet determined)
Cooperation Period:
Since 1996 up to present
Affiliated Organization:
Japan Firefighters Association, The Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy
Difficulties encountered and Solutions:
Follow-up reports on the project development were not available recipient in due course probably because of the political situation in the countries. The association currently advises the recipient to send a letter of appreciation upon their receipt of items to the donor.
Results and Future Prospects:
Vehicles are repainted and currently serve to protect citizens' safety as fire engines in the local communities.
We will continue our effort to help developing nations to ensure the safety of their citizens.
Problems:
A follow-up system should be set up to make sure that our projects would contribute to the benefit of recipient country.
