Motive for the start of project:
To have citizens of Fukui volunteering abroad act as bridges between the people of Fukui Prefecture and the people of the country in which the volunteers are working. In addition, to promote international understanding on the part of the people of Fukui.
Outline and Progress of Project:
The Governor of Fukui began appointing ambassadors from among Fukui citizens going abroad in the fiscal year 2001.

Activities of Cooperation Ambassadors
  • Providing information and materials deemed beneficial and appropriate for cooperation and exchange activities
  • ntroducing the daily life and culture of Fukui Prefecture
  • Reporting on the daily life and culture of the country in which the ambassador is working as well as the state of his/her volunteer activities
The Role of Fukui Prefecture

Working to create a system of support for the cooperation activities of ambassadors by, for example, enlisting the cooperation of interested organizations and local citizens. At the same time, furthering local citizen's interest in international cooperation.
  • Provide support to ambassadors by gathering information and materials required for the ambassadors to carry out their duties
  • Provide pamphlets and other materials to aid in introducing Fukui Prefecture
  • Promote international understanding among the people of Fukui by publishing the various information received from ambassadors on the prefecture's homepage

Results and Future Prospects:
Some highlights:
  • Sent materials which were collected through use of the prefecure's homepage and the participation of the prefecture's citizens, to Ambassador's upon their request.
    Through use of the mass media, we have broadcast information concerning the prefecture's citizens' participation and aided in understanding of that participation.
  • We hope to establish a regular system of communication between the Ambassadors.
Problems:
The Prefecture would like to have Coooperation Ambassadors continue to be active even after their return to Japan with the aim of promoting still further international cooperation among prefectural citizens.
