- Motive for the start of project:

In 1989, Matsumoto established a Sister City relationship with Kathmandu City. The 1st international Student Judo Convention in Nepal was held in Kathmandu and a request for cooperation was received at homecoming report of a participant in 1999.
- Outline and Progress of Project:
- Construction of a Multipurpose Martial Arts center in Kathmandu is planned for the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Matsumoto and Kathmandu.
Important Dates:
1999 Nov. The mayors for both cities sign a mutual agreement for this project at an assembly celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Matsumoto and Kathmandu.
2000 May. Naya Bazar is chosen as the building site.
2000 Oct. Matsumoto City invites a construction staff from Kathmandu City.
2001 Feb. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs decides to cooperate through a grass-root fund.
2001 Feb. Ground Breaking ceremony
2001 Apr. Construction starts
2002 Jan. Construction completed

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Kathmandu Metropolitan City; JICA; School Judo Association: All groups gathered information about the situation in the target country and helped with organizing the grass-root funding.

- Difficulties Encountered and Solutions:
- Due to the tragic massacre of the Nepalese royal family, there were concerns about construction being delayed. However due to the joint efforts between Matsumoto City and Kathmandu City, that event created no problems for construction.
- Results and Future Prospects:
- Results The facility is used for gymnastics classes and Japanese language classes, in addition to Judo, Kendo and other martial arts activities.
Prospects Continuing education for Judo and Kendo. Also a place for practical use for local citizens and international relationships or activities.
- Problems:

Under the recent serious political situation, there are concerns about the management and maintenance of the building since its completion. Also, good management and leadership are desired.
