- Motive for the start of project:

In 1980 Shiga Prefecture commenced sister relations with Rio Grande do Sul, which also requested to establish cooperative ties.
- Program Outline & Progress:

In 1990 we reached an agreement to commence cooperative ties.The Applied Technology Cooperation Program began in the same year. As of 2002, a total of 52 specialists from Shiga Prefecture have been dispatched to Brazil on 17 occasions to work in the fields of environmental and industrial technologies.

We are attaining steady results in numerous fields, starting with environment technology, and also including industrial technology, agriculture, fisheries, education, sports, civil engineering, sports, ceramic technology, fire fighting, law enforcement, etc. We anticipate further development in essential fields through sustained joint research.

We are looking to achieve even greater results which will be beneficial to both of our regions.
