- How the program started:

The exchange started in 1990 at the timeThe International Garden and Greenery Exposition Osaka Japan 1990was held in Osaka. Sonobe-Town promised to cooperate in the technical protection of Pagoda, traditional Nepalese architecture. In the course of the contact and discussion, Sonobe-Town started cooperation in the construction of the vocational school. The cooperation includes the technical guidance for self-efficiency of the local residents.

- Difficulties to date and measures to be taken:

In 1995, Sonobe-Town sent officials to Nepal to engage in the construction of roads and bridges to the school site. In the beginning, only the residents of Bistachhap Village were supportive of the project. People of other villages were just bystanders despite the fact that they would use the road when completed. However, impressed by the process of the bridge being constructed and the efforts of volunteers, they started cooperating with the project. At last, the construction was completed with the support of all the neighboring villages.
- Results/Prospects:

The completed Nepal-Sonobe Vocational School serves as a base of technical training in Nepal. The project encouraged both the Sonobe-Town officials and citizens (members of the Sonobe Nepal Friendship Association) to realize the significance of the international cooperation.
- Objectives:
-
In order to promote the self-sustenance of the vocational school, it is essential for the school to secure a source of finance as well as a way to minimize the management costs.
