- Results and Prospect:
- Between 1998-2003, 31 hectares of the friendship forest have been developed, this activity has contributed to the promotion of desert afforestation as well as the development of the forestry industry in Shimane Prefecture and Ning Xia. The Friendship Forest project has involved a total of 580 volunteers from both regions which has not only contributed to international exchange but also enhanced citizen awareness of afforestation and the need to preserve the global environment. It is hoped that international exchange and the awareness of preserving the global environment will continue for many years to come.
