Type of Project : Other
Field : Environment
Name of Local Authority : Shimane Prefecture
Cooperative partners : Ningxia Hui Province of Jilin in China, Kyongsangbuk-Do in Korea, Primorsky Krai in Russia

Motive for the start of project:
To carry out exchanges relating to nature protection between Shimane and the regions bound to the prefecture by ties of friendship. In addition, to promote natural environment protection measures by gaining an understanding of the habitation circumstances of the wildlife living in the region surrounding the Japan Sea.
Outline and Progress of Project:
Will proceed with a conference and investigation regarding nature protection administration and an investigation and information exchange related to wildlife.

1995-2002 Conference visits to the Chinese Ningxia Hui Province, and Korean Jilin, Kyongsangbuk-Do Province took place and in addition investigations were conducted in those areas.
1998-2002 A conference visit to Russia's Primorsky Krai took place and in addition investigations were conducted in the area.
Cooperation Period:
1995 -
Expenses:
2,000,000 yen during the period of April 2003 - March 2004
Results/Prospects:
The exchange of people involved in the field of nature protection is deepening. In March of 1999 there was the finalization of the agreement relating to the Kyongsangbuk-Do Nature Learning Exchange with Shimane Prefecture's Mt. Sanbe Nature Museum (currently the Natural Environment Research Institute), and since that year we have been alternately hosting Nature Protection Youth Exchange Visits. From July 29, 2004 a five day visit was made by 30 elementary and junior high school students from Korea. During the stay the delegation visited an attached facility of the Mt. Sanbe Nature Museum, the Fureai Sato Oku Izumo Park. It was here that the group planted a commerative tree promising increased exchange and friendship in the future.
Also, as of 2002 there was an exhibition at the Mt. Sanbe Nature Museum displaying exchange that had taken place. In 2003 there was an exhibition titled Othe Natural Environment of the Sea of Japan.
Agenda:
The recognition of the need for nature protection exists in all three areas. Therefore recognition and correspondence relating to each others different administration systems is necessary. Also, it is necessary to ensure there are enough preventative wildlife investigations and measures related to the transferal of specimens overseas. In regards, wildlife investigations, a special program exhibition centered around the Natural Environment of the Sea of Japan was held at Mt. Sanbe Nature Museum in 2003.
