Motive for the start of project:
Formed after suggestion made by the “Society to Discuss International Contribution in Okayama Prefecture”. This society was headed by Mr. Yasushi Akashi, a former assistant office manager at the United Nations. The aim being to cultivate people who can work actively in the field of international contribution.
Outline and Progress of Project:
  1. Aim
    To give university and junior college students in Okayama Prefecture experience in the field of international contribution and cooperation and the work done by NGOs abroad. The utilization of this experience to aid the development of international contribution in Okayama Prefecture. It also aims to cultivate students well-equipped to engage in future work involving international contribution and cooperation.
  2. Timetable of Project
    (1) May: Participants selected from university and junior college students in the prefecture
    (2) June: Training at the Municipal Institute for International Co-operation (Okayama Prefecture)
    (3) August-October: Volunteer work for respective NGOs abroad
    (4) December: Speech given by all volunteers relating to the future development of international contribution in Okayama Prefecture.
    (5) Okayama Prefecture provides up to half the necessary funding for their placement (up to 200,000 Yen)
