Support for Kingdom of Cambodia [Restoration Support Project in Kingdom of Cambodia]

Motive for the start of project:
Hiroshima Prefectural Government, based on the concept of "creation of peace", compiled a ‘Hiroshima Peace Contribution Plan’ as a guideline for concrete contribution for international peace with the construction of a new network for peace research and human resource development, the integration of resources which isinformation and know-how held by local community and the transmit of message from Hiroshima in 2002.
This plan has outlined the six projects ‘Peace Research Project’, ‘Psychiatric and Medical Care Support Project’, ‘Art and Culture Project’, ‘Human Resource Development Project’, ‘NGO Support Project’ and ‘Reconstruction SupportProject’ by combining the above projects.Then, ‘Reconstruction Support Project’ is planned to start in 2003 using Cambodia as a model.
Outline and Progress of Project:
Reconstruction support model project is considering being conducted in the field of education and medical care by ‘regional community’ consisting of the local governments, universities, NGOs etc in Hiroshima.
This model project promotes reconstruction support to post-conflict regions which is different from the support provided by large national bodies and is small in scale butis required to aim at ‘ensuring effective support.’ utilizing experience of reconstruction work in Hiroshima.
Then, the effective reconstruction support by ‘regional community’ in Hiroshima isattempted to extend to other countries and regions verifying the needs and support way on reconstruction support properly.
2003  dispatch of feasibility study team (7 days from September to October)
2004  dispatch of consultation team (6 days in March)
dispatch of detailed study team (5 weeks from September to October)

Start in 2005(to be scheduled)

Results and Future Prospects:
On the basis of the findings of the feasibility study in 2003, the detailed study and the trial for support activities in the field of education and health are scheduled to be conducted together with the local parties concerned.
Based on them, the concrete ideas for restoration support project focused on a technical assistance which will starts in 2005 is considered.
