If the Japanese text is not being properly displayed, it is possible that your internet browser is not set to handle Japanese characters or that software for handling Japanese has not been installed.
Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator/ Navigator are able to handle virtually all languages. If you are using a computer with a non-Japanese operating system and the Japanese language fonts have not been installed, it is necessary for you to download the Japanese fonts.
There are various ways to do this, but below one very simple and cost-free way of doing it is introduced. Please note that CLAIR can give no guarantee regarding the software.
First, access the following website:
http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/iebuild/ime5_win32/en/ime5_win32.htm
Next, select "Microsoft Global IME 5.02 for Japanese
with Language Pack" from among the options. If you
download the Japanese fonts, it should be possible for
you to both read and write Japanese characters on your
computer, even if it does not have a Japanese operating
system.
If Japanese characters are not properly displayed even
after downloading the fonts, check the Japanese font settings
under "Encoding" of the "View" menu
(on Internet Explorer). In most cases, if the encoding
is set to "Japanese (Auto-Select)", the text
will be properly displayed.
