Namegata is located in the southeast of Ibaraki Prefecture, about 70km from the centre of Tokyo. The City is sandwiched between two lakes, and a quarter of its area is water. A portion of the city is occupied by the Suigo Quasi-National Park, making it an extremely scenic place.
The city has many tourist attractions, including its ‘Hobikisen’ sailing boats, and a hot-spring resort that overlooks the surrounding area. The area has a warm climate, with hardly any snow in winter. With its rich, broad plains the city produces over 60 varieties of vegetables which are shipped to the nearby capital city region.
Namegata is located next to Ibaraki Airport, which opened in March 2010, and the expressway is expected to be extended into the city in the near future. The city is committed to attracting business and industry into the area. |
