2-8 Acquisition of status of residence
For a child who has been born in Japan and does not have Japanese nationality to reside in Japan, an application must be made at the immigration bureau whose jurisdiction they are under, and procedures carried out for the acquisition of status of residence within 30 days of the child’s birth. However, there is no need to do this in the event that the child will leave the country within 60 days.
