
4-4 Medical fee reimbursements for international students
Non-Japanese students having the status of international student (ryugaku) are supposed to enter into national health insurance programs. Those international students having entered into national health insurance programs are subsidized by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) for part of their medical fees. Their national health insurance programs cover 70% of such medical fees, while JASSO subsidizes 35% of the uncovered portion, which means that applicable international students bear about 20% of the total medical fees spent on them.
